Botanical Vessel #2 / Medium
This piece from my Botanical Vessel series is a study in stoneware, designed to be a sculptural piece while retaining full functionality. The form features a distinctive, fluted stem supporting a wide bowl with a beautifully organic, free-form rim. The complex, speckled glaze catches the light, emphasizing the contrast between the linear base and the fluid top.
The Maker's Mark: Honoring Imperfection
As is natural with high-fire stoneware, the intense heat of the kiln leaves its own signature. You will observe a subtle line (a natural stress line or firing crack) where the bowl meets the stem, as well as unique organic imperfections on the rim.
For me, these are not flaws; they are signatures of the process—evidence of the clay's life and transformation. I find that these marks add depth, character, and history to the piece, making it genuinely one-of-a-kind.
Material Integrity and Utility
• Durable Stoneware: Crafted from high-fire stoneware, ensuring the vessel is robust and built for lasting presence. These unique marks do not compromise the piece's structural durability.
• Fully Food Safe: This piece is completely food safe, allowing it to transition seamlessly from a stunning decorative display to a unique serving vessel.
• Dual Focus: The vessel is designed to be both highly functional for daily use and intrinsically sculptural for display.
Diameter 12” top, 3” base
